ज्येष्ठघ्न्यां जातो विचृतोर्यमस्य मूलबर्हणात्परि पाह्येनम् ।
अत्येनं नेषद्दुरितानि विश्वा दीर्घायुत्वाय शतशारदाय ॥२॥

'She that slays the eldest' — the archaic, ill-omened name of Jyeṣṭhā, occurring exactly once in the Atharvaveda. AV 6.110 is a birth-star charm: a rite for a child born under a malevolent asterism. Whitney's note: 'Antares or Cor Scorpionis (either alone or with σ, τ) is usually called jyeṣṭhā "oldest," but also (more anciently?), as an asterism of ill omen, jyeṣṭhaghnī "she that slays the oldest"'. Note the hymn does NOT mention Tiṣya, contrary to a common secondary-literature claim — the three asterisms named are all in Scorpius.
