The brightest supernova of the year, in the starburst galaxy NGC 3310 in Ursa Major, and still near eleventh magnitude a month after it was found. A Type Ia-CSM: a white dwarf that detonated inside gas its own system had already shed, so the explosion goes on lighting that gas from within — which is why this one has stayed bright rather than fading in a fortnight. Within reach of a small telescope under a dark sky.
